The maritime industry generates more data than almost any other sector on Earth. Every modern vessel is a floating sensor platform: thousands of data points from propulsion, navigation, environmental monitoring, and guest systems streaming continuously. Yet until recently, none of that data could be processed where it was created—at sea.
We saw the gap firsthand. Our founding team came from hyperscale cloud infrastructure, defense AI, and commercial maritime operations. We knew the technology existed to bring enterprise AI to any environment. What was missing was the engineering discipline to make it work reliably on a moving vessel with limited connectivity, variable power, and no tolerance for downtime.
ShipboardAI was founded to solve exactly that problem. We don't sell software subscriptions or cloud credits. We design, build, deploy, and support sovereign AI infrastructure that operates independently of shore-side systems. When your vessel is mid-ocean, your AI doesn't go offline.
2019
The Insight
Our founding team, veterans of both maritime operations and hyperscale AI infrastructure, identified a critical gap: the world's most valuable vessels had no path to deploying AI at the edge.

First Deployment
Deployed our first GPU cluster aboard a 90m superyacht in the Mediterranean. Proved that enterprise AI inference could operate reliably at sea with zero shore-side dependency.

Cruise Line Partnership
Signed our first major cruise line partnership, equipping 12 vessels with edge AI infrastructure for predictive maintenance, guest experience, and operational optimization.
2022
Maritime AI Lab
Established a dedicated maritime AI research facility to develop models optimized for bandwidth-constrained, high-vibration, variable-power shipboard environments.
